چکیده
Abstract This study presents the first set of Holocene, high‐quality absolute paleointensity data from Alaska, USA. Existing for Holocene are generally located at mid‐northern latitudes in North America, Europe, Middle East, and eastern Asia. Relatively few Alaska region. IZZI‐modified experiments were conducted on glassy volcanic materials Aniakchak volcano, a mid‐ to high‐latitude composite volcano Alaska‐Aleutian arc. The CCRIT selection criteria applied results. A total 30 specimens six samples with estimated ages ranging 1931 CE 2,300 years before present passed all criteria. sample‐mean paleointensities ranged 49.5 68.0 microTesla (μT). results comparable modeled intensities, however except one lower than those predicted by geomagnetic field models. estimate historical eruption was about 15 μT greater expected strength. overestimate may result unrecognized alteration or non‐ideal remanence carriers this sample. Further evaluation using Bayesian estimation method resulted that encompasses strength within uncertainty. These new valuable contribution high‐northern latitude paleomagnetic set. Incorporation these into future models will improve predictions behavior

New insights into the 1999 eruption of Shishaldin volcano, Alaska, based on acoustic data
Data collected by a pressure sensor provide new insights into the 1999 eruption of Shishaldin volcano, Unimak Island, Alaska. On 19 April 1999, after 3 months of unrest and an extended period of low-level Strombolian activity, Shishaldin experienced a Subplinian eruption (ash plume to >16 km), followed by several episodes of strong Strombolian explosions. Acoustic data from the pressure sensor ...
متن کاملPrecursory seismicity associated with frequent, large ice avalanches on Iliamna volcano, Alaska, USA
Since 1994, at least six major (volume >10m) ice and rock avalanches have occurred on Iliamna volcano, Alaska, USA. Each of the avalanches was preceded by up to 2 hours of seismicity believed to represent the initial stages of failure. Each seismic sequence begins with a series of repeating earthquakes thought to represent slip on an ice–rock interface, or between layers of ice. This stage is f...
متن کاملNonlinear estimation of geometric parameters in FEMs of volcano deformation: Integrating tomography models and geodetic data for Okmok volcano, Alaska
[1] The internal structure, loading processes, and effective boundary conditions of a volcano control the deformation observed at the Earth’s surface. Using finite element models (FEMs), we simulate the response due to a pressurized magma chamber embedded in a domain having a distribution of elastic material properties. We present the Pinned Mesh Perturbation method (PMP) to automate the mesh g...

We identified Echinococcus multilocularis for the first time in brown lemmings (Lemmus trimucronatus) from Barrow, Alaska, USA. Of 467 brown lemmings trapped between 1995 and 2000, two males and two females (0.9%; 95% confidence interval=0.9+/-0.9%) were found to be infected with metacestodes of E. multilocularis. No metacestodes were found in 17 collared lemmings (Dicrostonyx rubricatus) also ...
